Fairy Tales Stories for Kids
Fairy tales stories are a type of short stories that typically feature such fairy tale characters, as elves, fairies, goblins, dwarfs, giants trolls or gnomes, and often also magic or spells. However, only a small number of the fairy tales short stories refer to fairies. Fairy Tale story for kids may nevertheless be distinguished from other types of folk narratives such as ballads and legends and explicitly moral tales, including beast fables. As a general rule, legends imply a belief in the veracity of the described events.
In less specific contexts, the term fairytale can also be used to describe something or someone blessed with unusual fortune and happiness, such as in a ”fairy tale ending”, which means a particularly happy ending or “fairy tale romance” . This colloquialism is used often in spoken language despite the fact that not all short fairy tales end happily. Colloquially, a “fairy tale story” can also refer to any far-fetched, clearly unrealistic story or, in other words, a “ tall tale”.
In certain parts of the world in which cultures such creatures as demons, wizards and witches were perceived as real, fairy tales stories may have evolved into legends, where the narrative of the story is perceived both by teller of the legend and the audience as being grounded actual historical truth. Unlike legends and epics, however, fairy tales usually only contain superficial references to religious practices and actual places, events and people; they often take place “once upon a time” and not in actual specified time setting.
Fairy tales are common in oral as well as in literary form. The history of the fairy tale stories is very difficult to trace accurately simply because only the literary forms can survive in a more or less exact original form. Still, the evidence of literary works clearly indicates that fairy tale stories have existed for at least thousands of years, even though not having been classified as a genre. The actual term ”fairy tale” was first invented by Madame d’Aulnoy in the late 17th century. Many of today’s fairy tale stories have evolved from centuries-old folk tales that have appeared, with numerous versions and variations, in multiple cultures all over the world. Stories of Fairy tales, and related works derived from them, are still being written by modern authors today.
The original fairy tale stories were intended for an adult audience, as well as for the children, but they began to be associated specifically with children as early as the writings of the précieuses. The famous Brothers Grimm titled their collection of fairy tales Children’s and Household Tales, and the link with children has been growing stronger with time.
