Developmental Milestones for 2 Year Olds
One of the developmental milestones for 2 year olds is their tendency to hit, kick, bite or push whenever the mood strikes them.

Older children can use language to express how they feel, which helps them to discharge their feelings so they can move on and deal effectively with the situation.
But toddlers don’t have enough of a command of language to express themselves properly, and so this isn’t an option. So what can parents do?
Developmental Milestones for 2 Year Olds: Help your toddler manage his anger by teaching them to identify the feelings behind their anger.
Anger is not actually a genuine emotion; it acts kind of like a safety shield, covering up the true emotion that a person feels while allowing them to save face. When your toddler is angry, try and figure out what he’s really upset about, and try to help him identify what he’s feeling. By putting his feelings into words, you’ll help him discharge his feelings in an appropriate manner.
You can do this by first removing your child from the area, and then waiting until she’s calm. Then, in very simple language, tell your child what you saw, being careful to speak in the same language he uses.
If he speaks in sentences of two or three words, then you should too: “Jessie mad? Baby sit here (pat your lap) and not Jessie?” Then explain to your child that you can’t let him hit his sibling: be sure to exaggerate your facial expressions in order to make a strong impression on him – and to speak slowly and with emphasis.
Explain to them in simple words, “Jessie, no hitting. Jessie say, ‘I’m mad!’” You can add a little humor by stomping your foot for emphasis, letting Jessie practice too.
Teaching your child the words that go with his strong feelings is an effective method for handling aggression. That of course will free you up to enjoy the other developmental milestones for 2 year olds.
